Now for our old Vintage boys – we’d like you to round up some of your old vintage bikes, ancient gear & any peculiar precious paraphernalia to bring along and display at the Vintage booths or if you have any items you’re ready to barter and trade — pack ‘em up and you just might be able to pass ‘em along?!!   One man’s garbage is the next man’s treasure!

We welcomed some new faces and nice to see our regulars and die hards!   We had a diversity of riders from their teens to their sixties proving that Vintage Racing is for everyone!  The vintage pits were full and in every corner there were guys swapping vintage restoration secrets even assisting with some last minute wrenching to ensure everyone had a great time on the track.  Lots of good ole fashion racing, good laughs and obviously some serious wrenching over the winter as there was some pretty nice bikes!Awesome job by the AMO Racing crew and a special thumbs up to Ryan, Chelsea and Donna who made a special effort to make the vintage crew feel welcome and had the day running very smooth. One of the officials even commented how every rider came off the track with a big smile!  That’s what it is all about!  So we hope to see a strong showing at the next event …come on vintage community …..let’s show southwestern Ontario …..Vintage Racing is a mainstay!Race Results for Series Race #1

Race 3 of the CMRC/Sasquatch Vintage Racing Series took place this past Sunday at Gopher Dunes!
With the CMRC Nationals on the Saturday and Vintage MX on the Sunday; it was a weekend jammed full of entertainment!  Once again we enjoyed Saturday night campfire with good friends, caught up on recent events; had some great laughs; even met some new friends.
The Sunday forecast was not promising but Vintage riders proved they are not just fair weather riders!   They swarmed in on the Sunday morning with several bikes in tow… making it a colourful display of over 40 vintage bikes to ogle at!  …Bultaco, Can Am, Carabela, CZ, Hodaka, Kawaski, Suzuki,Yamaha, Honda…you could spend hours in conversation regarding the nostalgia of the Vintage MX era…..but there was some racing to get DONE!
We welcomed 12 riders in Vintage and 18 riders in Heritage so these displays were short lived as the pieces of MX history headed out to the track.   We were pleased to welcome new faces to the event – Dennis Gasparaotto #222 on his 1982 Honda CR250 , Jeff Palmer #22 on his Yamaha….and even the chief mechanic from Devils Lake MX Yamaha Team – Milan Sochor!!! #2 riding a Yamaha 250 vintage of course!  (Milan even provided the vintage crew with some very valuable tech talk!)
The heavy rain held off long enough for the Vintage class to get out and rip the track… with Rob Duquette taking the hole shot on his Jawa CZ and Matt Chambers on his Can Am chomping closely behind..the vintage crew ripped up the track in the usual competitive fashion.  But as soon as the Heritage class rolled up to the gate mother nature released the heavens…and did it rain BUCKETS!….but to a competitive VMX rider pffff…a little rain ain’t going to stop ya!..Scott Smith on his ’79 Yamaha took the hole shot to begin the 7 laps of neck to neck racing as the rain pounded.    It was evident that every rider was out to win..squirrely turns, table top jumps, sideway slides, neck to neck competition….it was just overall great racing.  They may have been wet…but there were smiles a mile wide from the sheer energy, excitement and the adrenaline of the race!
By the afternoon, the sun peaked through the clouds and the riders headed back out to the track for their 2nd moto.  Now the track conditions were perfect and again the riders gave the spectators an entertaining show as several duals for critical series points position took place all over the track.  They were not letting up…it was 8 laps (yep added a lap!!) of pure head to head racing.   Overall a great day of racing!
We would like to thank CMRC and Gopher Dunes for a flawless day and making the vintage crew feel like an important part of the MX community!  And to all you who come out to ride, watch or wrench…thank you once again for your contribution to Vintage MX!!  Look forward to seeing you at the next race!

Another great weekend of VMX racing with Race 2 of the CMRC/Sasquatch Vintage Racing Series at Motocup Round 2 at Motopark dsc00520-1

The Sasquatch crew arrived on Saturday night to prepare for the Sunday races and enjoyed the Saturday night campfire and the firework display with good friends. Come Sunday morning it was all about the races. It was going to be a good day of racing with 11 registered for Vintage and 20 for Heritage! We welcomed our usual friendly faces and pleased to see new faces to toss up the competition and show of their vintage beauties! All in all everyone had a blast.

Mother nature gave us a spectacular day of weather! Track conditions were perfect and the racers showed their stuff! The spectators were in awe of the decades of MX history on the track – Grant Nixon’s 1964 CZ 250 dual piper, Jason Messingberd’s 1974 CR 250 Honda Elsinore, Craig Stevenson’s beauty 1980 250 Maico, Ian McLean’s 1982 YZ 490 and the list goes on and on…. these riders bring the history of these MX icons back to life and ride the track as the proud historians/restorers they are. To all the Riders/VMX owners thank you for your contribution to Vintage MX.

Many thanks to Motopark Motocup organizers and track crew for a smooth day of racing! Check out the photos Race 2 of Sasquatch Vintage Racing at Motopark or watch the slide show 2nd Vintage Race of Sasquatch Series

May 15, 2014…

Good day Motobuds!

There may be some confusion regarding this weekend’s vintage race at Motopark on Sunday, May 18, 2014.
Just a quick update the race this weekend at Motopark is not a CMRC sanctioned event so no CMRC license is required to race – however if you want to be included in the points you do need to have a membership and if you don’t have one you can see me (Heather Collis) at the Sasquatch trailer to fill out your application as CMRC will not be completing the administration at this event – this is strictly a Motopark Motocup weekend and run entirely by Motopark.    If you want to run this race for fun you don’t need a CMRC membership or day pass and you are eligible for the day event trophies and prizes!
Motopark have included the Vintage/Heritage race/series into this weekends event.  I have personally been in touch with Motopark and everything is a go and we are included on their website   at  Motocross Cup Round 1   Its a great weekend of fun with fireworks on the Saturday night, be sure to join us!
The Vintage/Heritage Class Entry Fee is $30 for 1st entry and $30 for a 2nd entry (in case you want to run both).   Be sure to specify you are Vintage as the Main Track Entry Fee for Modern is $35 for 1st Class.
If you have any questions, please let me know and we look forward to seeing you at the track on Sunday!
Happy Long Weekend!!!

May 3, 2014….
The CMRC/Sasquatch Vintage Racing Series officially kicked off this past weekend at RJ’s Motosports Park in Barrie (Sunday, April 27th 2014)!  What a great showing of vintage riders – the busy sign-in included 26 entries for both the Vintage/Heritage classes!

The Sasquatch crew showed up on Saturday night to some chilly conditions but come Sunday morning the clouds dispersed and the sun provided a spectacular day!   Nothing like a beautiful spring day to kick off the racing season.  The track conditions were awesome and for a number of vintage riders the first time to the RJ’s track —- they enjoyed the vintage friendliness of the track and put on their best show for their opening race.
Randy Zuest cleaned up in both vintage class motos with his usual flawless riding style on his ’74 Honda Elsinore 125.  Paul Guilbert of Sasquatch Vintage Racing kept a competitive pace in both motos to pick up second place on his ’74 Suzuki.  While Clint Saunders battled closely with Paul to capture the third place position on his ’74  Can Am TNT 175.    Greg Collis and Brian Zuest had their challenges in the day with Brian off to a bad start in moto one and Greg Collis off the track in moto two…however the two managed a fourth and fifth position respectively.   Dana Zuest joined her father on the track also riding a ’74 Honda Elsinore 125….A big kudos’ to Dana for dicing up with the old boys and keeping the spirit alive!

The Heritage class continued with the intensity of Scott Smith of team Wolfe Worx and Randy Zuest battling for those first place race points!   Scott Smith on his Yamaha YZ 250 claimed the first place overall narrowly beating second place Randy Zuest also on his Yamaha YZ 125.   Derek Mols decided to make it a clean third on his Suzuki 250 or it could have been team Yamaha taking all top places as Adam Brown takes 4th place on his Yamaha YZ 250.  A nice showing by Perry Godschalx on nicely restored ’82 Honda Elsinore taking the 5th position of the day!

What a perfect day on the long sandy track of RJ’s Motosports in Barrie….the sweeping corners, the rolling jumps and the long stretches of wide sandy lanes… each of the riders challenged the three laps of each moto.   And after such a long cold winter, with what some said had no end in sight, everyone welcomed this start to the season.    Underneath those helmuts, visors and goggles are the smiling faces of several vintage enthusiasts happy to ripping the track once again.  The burning smell of 2 stroke, the laughter in the pits and the overall camaraderie of good and new friends….We bring you the 2014 Vintage Racing Season!!

Many thanks to the CMRC Racing staff and RJ’s track crew for a smooth day of racing!
